About SAMI
Questions people ask about SAMI
What is SAMI?
SAMI is a free AI assistant that answers how-to questions about the iSAMS school management system. It answers from a curated knowledge base of iSAMS guides (based on publicly available iSAMS support documentation), with step-by-step instructions that use the exact iSAMS menu and button names.
Is SAMI official iSAMS support?
No. SAMI is a community project built and run by EthanCorp. It is not provided or endorsed by the makers of iSAMS and does not replace official iSAMS support or your school's iSAMS administrator.
Is SAMI free to use?
Yes. SAMI is free; you only need to create an account. Fair-use daily limits apply to keep the service available for everyone.
How accurate are SAMI's answers?
SAMI only answers from its iSAMS guides and says when a question isn't covered instead of guessing. Answers are still generated by AI and can be wrong or out of date, so check them against what you see in iSAMS before making important changes.
Which parts of iSAMS does SAMI cover?
Attendance and registration, academic and assessment, admissions, pastoral and wellbeing, finance and fee billing, communications and portals, timetabling, HR and staff records, system administration, and reporting and analytics.
Can I ask SAMI in languages other than English?
Yes. SAMI replies in the language you write in, although its iSAMS guides are in English.
Example answers
Common iSAMS questions, answered
How do I reset a staff member's iSAMS password?
Open the staff member's user account and use the Reset Password option. You'll get three choices: Keep Password, Default Password, or Create Password (to set a new one yourself). Once saved, the user receives a confirmation email.
How do I set up a new fee or discount in iSAMS?
Go to Fee Billing > Accounts and Charges > Fees and click Create New Fee. Give it a unique Code and link it to a Nominal Code. Set the Type to Fixed Sum or Percentage — for a discount, enter the amount as a negative value. Finally, tick Active so the fee can be used on student accounts.
How do I put a student in detention in iSAMS?
Use the 5-step Detention Wizard in Discipline Manager. Select the student and an available future detention session, then enter an Offence Description and use the Work Set field to specify the work they need to complete. You can print a detention slip, and notifications go out through the iParent, iStudent and iTeacher apps.
How do I turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) for iSAMS logins?
It's a 4-step process: configure a trusted network, make sure admins have the correct security profile, configure individual user accounts for 2FA, then users log in with a verification code from an authenticator app. Once 2FA is enabled school-wide, accounts not configured for it lose access to sensitive areas such as Export Student Records, the Email/SMS wizards and Invoice Generation.
